Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary

PSALM 75

Ps 75:1-10. Al-taschith-(See on [610]Ps 57:1, title). In impending danger, the Psalmist, anticipating relief in view of God's righteous government, takes courage and renders praise.

1. God's name or perfections are set forth by His wondrous works.

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary

75:1-5 We often pray for mercy, when in pursuit of it; and shall we only once or twice give thanks, when we obtain it? God shows that he is nigh to us in what we call upon him for. Public trusts are to be managed uprightly. This may well be applied to Christ and his government. Man's sin threatened to destroy the whole creation; but Christ saved the world from utter ruin. He who is made of God to us wisdom, bids us be wise. To the proud, daring sinners he says, Boast not of your power, persist not in contempt. All the present hopes and future happiness of the human race spring from the Son of God.

Psalm 26:7 That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving And declare all Your wonders.
Psalm 44:1 For the choir director. A Maskil of the sons of Korah. O God, we have heard with our ears, Our fathers have told us The work that You did in their days, In the days of old.
Psalm 71:17 O God, You have taught me from my youth, And I still declare Your wondrous deeds.
Psalm 79:13 So we Your people and the sheep of Your pasture Will give thanks to You forever; To all generations we will tell of Your praise.
Psalm 145:18 The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. (NASB ©1995)

Al-tas-chith. or, Destroy not Ps 57:1 58:1

A Psalm. Some consider this Psalm to have been written by David on his accession to the throne over all Israel; others refer it to the time of the captivity, considering it as a continuation of the subject in the preceding; but B. Patrick and others are of opinion that it was composed by Asaph to commemorate the overthrow of Sennacherib's army. 2Ki 19:1
